Ok I finally get to brag here, months of nothing and having to read about all of your puppies coming was just too much! LOL Nika is due the 21st, forget Christmas I will have mine early! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Ok can you tell I am getting excited? LOL I built the whelping pen and did not realize the others were NOT 8 foot long! LOL I guess they were 6x4 but this one is now 8x4. I put it in my dinning room this time and the wire pen I have wraped around it perfectly, just need to get a couple whatchmacallits for the end to secure it, gate will be wonderful!

Is it Miss Piggy??? LOL
How many should I expect? I guess 10.

-
Well Magic always looked like she was going to bust, she is a smaller dog. If you look at Nika from above she barely looks pregnant so it is real hard to guess. Also she still has 9-11 days of growing!
-
She is pretty big, so it can be deceiving! I guess 10, if I know Jordi !!!! Plus milk bags are pretty full for a week and a half left. Go get an x ray, then you'll know what to expect!! Lee
-
I asked the vet about that today, she said it can show the pups but not all of them so there really is no point. For example she said the looked at a dog and one of the vets said she saw 3 pups, one vet said she saw a 4th head but could not find the body so they were expecting 4 pups. She had 8 so yeah what's the point. If it were acurate I would do it for sure. Just have to wait.
-
Well I am 2 for 2 on my last two xrays. I would rather know a head of time if I was in for 10-14 pups, as opposed to 6 or 7. Trust me, if you wait til around 53-55 days, then all the bones will show up. You may miss one or two, but atleast you will have an idea of what to expect. I do all my bitches, and have only been really wrong once. Canyon had 16, I could only count 11 on the xray. But overall I am satisfied with theoutcomes. Something to think about. Also, not all Vets are real good ones!!!! Good luck, Lee
-
If you wait till around day 63, you'll know the number for sure. No need for an x-ray. They will come out for sure ;D
I never do x-ray or ultrasound. I just like surprices :D
-
Well I like surprises also but with this being her first litter I just worry about things going wrong, will they all come out ok, what if one is stuck, you know just the normal worries. I might have it done then a couple days before she is due.
-
She will be just fine. Just tell your vet that you have a delivery coming so that he is available in case of a problem. But why should there be a problem? She's a Magic puppy. Those pups will just fall out without a problem ;D
-
Well Nancy when you only have 1 litter a year, then you don't really have to worry. Try having 2litters on the same day!!! It is nice to know what you are dealing with. JMO Lee
-
Pete is not having 2 litters at the same day ;)
But 1 litter a year or 10 litters a year does not make a difference to me. Chances of a delivery not going as usual are the same on each litter.
I just don't like running to vets with pregant females. Vets are more experienced in c-sections than natural births. Some prefer to recommend a c-section even if not really needed. Just to be sure ::) Only yesterday evening a CC delivered 10 very tiny pups by c-section, 60 days after the first mating (and this mating was really much too early). And this vet recommended this c-section a week ago already!
Now I know Pete's vet is not like this at all. But I just prefer to let nature surprise us and not put the females through the stress of an x-ray ;)
And believe me. If you missed several litters due to empty females and finally have a female pregnant, all you want is for everything to be ok with all the pups. Even more than when you have more litters in a shorter time.
-
I don't know what doing xrays is like there, but I just put my bitch on the table and they take a shot. There is no stress involved when I go. Plus I didn't mean anything abot C-Sections??? I hate them, and have only had to do one, becuase pup died inside bitch because she wouldn't push. Lee
-
I am just impatient, a bit worried and anxious!!!! I will wait then! Thx everyone.
-
Once again. We are talking about cultural differences. In the US, vets are on every corner. When I get an xray, it is once, and once only. An xray tech wears a vest because they are exposed to many many xrays. 1 xray every year insn't gonna efffect anyone or any dog or pup. I can't really understand your stories???? When I xray my bitch, I can see her whole insides. If you wait after 53 days, then the bones are calcified, and will show up on an xray. Your vet obviously xrayed way too soon if he saw nothing, then 5 came out. Another thing, when I xray for number of pups, the bitch is on her side, not on her back. Therefor it is in a natural position I train all my dogs in. This is the position I use when the vet examines one of my serious dogs. The info I am giving is actual scientific knowledge, not guess work. Calcification shows up best after 50 days. This info can be verified by any vet. Please explain to me why the xray is bad for the pups?? You would xray if pup was limping right? Do you do early hip xrays? Same xrays, what makes the ones at 55 days of life different than say 120 days?? Don't anyone get all excited, this is simply breeders discussing their views. Lee

In the US, vets are on every corner.
I don't think Pete agrees with this ;D
-
You are right Nancy, I don't use the vets in town, don't care for most of them simply becuase they are there for the money. I have 2, actually 3 country vets in 3 different directions of me and they are still a few miles down the road but the one I really like that has worked with my dogs and puppies and just loves them all is the one that just told me about the dog they x-rayed and guessed 3-4 to have 8. Maybe it was done too soon, I did not asked that and maybe done at 56 days the picture is that much better, never tried that but I do prefer to work with caring vets!!! Not long now, getting closer!!!! LOL
-
I agree, that is where I miss counting when I'm wrong ;d !!!
-
Puppy Breath! Send me a jar-full, won't you? I'm going to give Ralphie a bit more time before I allow myself to succumb to puppy-fever. OOOh - but how tempting when you see a half-sibling having a litter.
No worries - Nika is a big girl. I did not specifically check that day, I can lay bets that her pelvis is as big as her head. Hey - who needs a formal dining room when you can have PUPPIES! I am sure that carpet will be nice and comfortable to sleep on. Although, that pen is big enough where you could bed down in there and take part in the puppy pile.
-
Stucking Stuffers! Puppy breath in a jar, that would sell especially to all those people that are tired of telling thier spouse, NO, NO, NO to a another dog!!!! LOL
-
Finally they are here, she started a day early, the night of the 20th and went until 6am the 21st! We have 6 blue males, 4 blue females and 1 black brindle!~ I thought for sure I would have more dark pups then blue! They all look really nice and I can't wait to see them grow now, LOL first I could not wait for the birth now I can't wait to see them grow!!!

I am keeping a little girl but those boys are sooooooooooo temping!!!!!!! I don't have a good picture of her, will work on that this weekend. Always trying to get pics for the new owners by the time you get all that done and sent you don't think of getting any of your own! Nika is such a good mom, she is still cleaning them as if they were one day old, she eats more shit then dog food and gets it before it hits the ground! LOL
-
They are very cute!!!!!!
-
Ha,ha, I know what you mean!! It's like she thinks she has a bunch of personal FROSTY MAKERS!!! Yummy! Seriously, I also know what you mean about being too worn out to take pics of your own. Good luck and I can't wait to see what you get. Lee

Beautiful Pups!
-
Adorable :-* :-* very nice pups
-
Thanks for those pics Pete!!! They are going to be real nice I think. If they retain her bone, and his type, then they will be sure winners.
What made you pick Viper over the rest? Just wanting to know for my own selfish reasons :) :) Lee
-
nice looking puppies, it'll be intresting to see how they'll look older
-
Hey Lee, I choose her because I liked her head the best, the one with the white strip also had a very nice head but I just hate that white! I know you should not choose by color but I like what I like. She also moves nicely, I liked her shorter back, just picked my favorite of the girls. The other girl I have pictured here I think will have too short a muzzle and too undershot due to that muzzle. She is really cute but not what I want.
-
Great looking pups!! So cute :)
-
Cool, thanks for the run down. Lee!!!
-
thanks for posting the pics - and sharing your choose Pete, :)
again congrats for the litter and developping.
I agree fully with your selection + the way she´s looking ;);D
